Our member firms doing business in commodity markets play a crucial role for the global economy by facilitating price discovery and helping end-users manage risk.

The futures industry has its roots in commodities, with farmers, miners, producers and other businesses using these financial instruments for price discovery and risk management. While the futures and cleared derivatives industry continues to grow and expand to new markets, FIA maintains a close focus on the issues and challenges affecting the commodity markets, from end-users to brokers to exchanges to clearinghouses. Our primary goal is to protect and promote healthy commodity derivatives markets.

For over two decades, FIA has operated member committees and working groups dedicated to commodities. These groups meet regularly across regions to discuss the latest policy, regulatory and operational developments impacting any member active in commodity derivatives markets.     NCDEX gets ready for equity derivatives launch 

    India's National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, the country's largest agricultural commodities trading venue, is gearing up to launch equity and equity derivatives trading on its platform after receiving preliminary approval from the country’s markets regulator this summer.     FIA asks CFTC to sunset swaps large trader reporting rules

    FIA submitted a petition to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to sunset its Part 20 regulations for large trader reporting for physical commodity swaps. Issued in 2011 as a temporary swaps data collection measure, the CFTC has since established a comprehensive reporting regime for swaps through a series of rulemakings that has rendered the Swaps LTR Rules redundant and unnecessary.     FIA supports replacing the market share test with an annual threshold test, but raises concerns about the suggested inclusion of trading venue activity.     FIA has responded to ESMA’s consultation paper on draft technical standards, which provide further details for the new EMIR 3.0 clearing thresholds regime. FIA broadly agrees with the proposed uncleared thresholds but raises concerns about the reductions for IRDs and commodity derivatives, citing inflationary pressures and the importance of maintaining competitiveness with other jurisdictions.
