FFK to host virtual fundraiser for charities

Futures industry charity foundation offers ways to safely support causes amid pandemic

28 April 2020

Futures For Kids, the futures industry’s charity foundation, has announced the FFK Virtual Fun Run. The event will allow supporters to run, walk or cycle safely in their local communities instead of gathering as usual for the organization's annual Fun Run event that was scheduled for June.

Futures For Kids heard many appeals from the charities it supports that their fundraising opportunities were proving difficult to arrange during the Covid-19 pandemic. So FFK responded with a virtual event, allowing for participation between the dates of April 24 and May 24. Patrons have been asked to make a donation to FFK and then complete a 5k or 10k run or walk, or a cycle ride (even on a stationary exercise bike) of 15k.

And as usual, FFK wants to keep the "fun" in the Fun Run and has encouraged participants to don colorful costumes and post pictures of themselves on social media, mentioning the @FuturesForKids Twitter account and using the hashtag #ffkvirtualrun2020.

To introduce an element of competition, FFK has said participants can enter a virtual race by submitting their times (evidence is required) and the charity will announce the winners and post the results on its website shortly after May 24.

"We hope that by making this a virtual event, and broadening the number of activities included, we will be able to attract more participants from across the futures industry globally," Futures for Kids said in a statement announcing the event.

FFK, which helps fund a range of U.K. and international children’s charities, said that while coronavirus (COVID-19) donations are important, fundraising for many other charities has dried up both because attention is on the pandemic and because events have been cancelled. That makes this year's event more important than ever.
