Martin Abbott, the former chief executive of the London Metal Exchange, was appointed as an independent non-executive director of Mitsui & Co. Commodity Risk Management, the London-based energy derivatives trading subsidiary of Mitsui & Co. In April, MCRM combined with Mitsui Bussan Commodities, an affiliated company that is a Category 2 member of the London Metal Exchange, and brought together their energy and base metals derivatives businesses under one roof.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch appointed Dean Tonkin as head of futures, options, OTC clearing and FX prime brokerage. He filled the vacancy left in January when Peter Johnson left the bank. Tonkin has worked for BAML since 2012, when he was appointed global head of FX short-term interest rate trading. Before that he held several senior roles in FX and rates trading at Barclays.

Japan Exchange announced several top level changes that will take effect in June. Akira Kiyota, previously the president and chief executive officer of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, was named to serve as group CEO. He will succeed Atsushi Saito, who is retiring. Koichiro Miyahara, an executive vice president at TSE, was named to take Kiyota's place as the head of TSE.

The Securities and Exchange Commission appointed David Grim as head of its investment management division. Grim, who joined the agency in 1995, had been the division’s acting director, following the departure of former director Norm Champ.

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced that Gregg Berman, associate director in the SEC's division of trading and markets, left the agency in April. During his tenure, he spearheaded the agency’s research on market structure issues related to electronic trading and led the agency’s analysis of the causes of the May 6, 2010 market events.

Societe Generale announced a reorganization of its global markets division in May that will affect the leadership of its prime services division, which houses the bank’s Newedge business. David Escoffier, who was named chief executive officer of Newedge when Societe Generale took full ownership in 2013, is stepping back from that position to focus on his role as deputy head of global markets within Societe Generale’s corporate and investment banking division. In addition, he will be in charge of supervising the sales teams across the bank’s markets activities. Prime services will now be run by Chris Topple a senior Newedge executive since 2010, and Christopher Lattuada, previously the head of strategy and corporate development in SGCIB. Antoine Babule remains head of prime services in the Americas, and Laurent Cunin remains head of prime services in Asia.

In a related part of the reorganization, the bank appointed Richard Quessette, formerly global head of cross-asset solutions, as head of a newly created business line within the global markets division that will focus on equities and derivatives. In addition, the bank gave Danielle Sindzingre, the head of fixed income and currencies since 2012, broader responsibilities that include both flow and structured products. Jonathan Whitehead remains head of commodities markets.

Citadel Securities, the market-making arm of Citadel, appointed Simon Holmes as chief operating officer of its fixed income business. He is based in London and will focus on building the company’s marketmaking business for swaps. He previously worked at ICAP, where he was chief operating officer for its electronic interest rate swaps trading platform.

HSBC hired John O'Neill, a former Liffe executive, to advise on market structure and innovation within its global banking and markets division. He will lead the division's engagement with industry initiatives and adoption of new market structures, including in the trading platform, exchange and clearing sectors. O'Neill worked at Liffe for more than 12 years and served as head of product development for its interest rate derivatives business from 2012 to 2014.

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing named Mao Zhirong and Li Gang as coheads of a newly formed division that will focus on business related to mainland China. Mao has been with HKEx since 2013, when he joined HKEx from the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, and he had a significant role in the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect program. Li Gang has been a senior adviser at HKEx since 2013. Before that he was the chief executive officer of Shanghai Billionton Metal, a trading company focused on spot metal trading in Shanghai and London.

HKEx also promoted Roger Lee, a veteran executive at the exchange, to a newly created position as deputy head of global markets, Asia. He will continue to report to Romesh Lamba, co-head of global markets, and serve as head of market operations. Lee has been with HKEx since it was established. His roles have included cohead of IT and head of information services. HKEx also hired Kevin Rideout as head of business development, a new position in the global markets division. He will be responsible for the division's business development and marketing teams and will report to Lamba. Rideout joined HKEx from the Hong Kong office of Citigroup, where he served as head of wholesale execution services, Asia.

Samantha Page joined the wholesale bank supervision team at the U.K.'s Financial Conduct Authority. Page previously worked at the London office of Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where she was director in the bank's futures and OTC clearing business.

LCH.Clearnet Group appointed Frank Soussan as global head of CDSClear, the group's clearing service for credit default swaps, effective July 1. He will be based in Paris and will take over from Gavin Wells, who will now focus exclusively on the group's foreign exchange clearing service. Soussan has been with LCH.Clearnet since November, serving as head of in-business risk. Before that he was a senior portfolio manager with Renshaw Bay, an asset management firm based in London.

LCH.Clearnet Group appointed Steve Briscoe as group head of technology and operations. He was previously at RBS, where he was head of operations for the markets division. Martin Ryan, who has served as LCH. Clearnet's head of operations since 2012, was appointed group head of shared services for the clearinghouse's parent company, London Stock Exchange Group.

LCH.Clearnet Ltd., the London-based subsidiary of LCH.Clearnet Group, appointed Shona Milne as an independent non-executive director. Milne has more than 25 years' experience in the financial services industry, most recently as chief financial officer of Deutsche Bank Netherlands. The clearinghouse also appointed Stephen Compton as a user board member. Compton is currently global head of G10 markets treasury at Citigroup.

Dominique Cerutti, chief executive officer of Euronext N.V. and chairman of the managing board, left the company to take a new position as chairman and CEO of Altran, a consulting firm. Jos Dijsselhof, who has been serving as chief operating officer, was named interim CEO.

The London Metal Exchange appointed Andrew Dodsworth as head of market operations. He is leading the exchange's electronic trading, matching, market data and warrant management operational services, as well as the price discovery department, headed by Peter Childs, and all market supervision functions. He reports to Stuart Sloan, chief operating officer. Dodsworth previously worked at Liffe, where he was executive director of market services.

LME also announced that Priyanka Malhotra was appointed head of business development of LME Clear, effective July 1. She will report to Trevor Spanner, chief executive officer of LME Clear. Malhotra was previously at the Bank of England where she held a number of leadership positions, including oversight of central counterparties within the market infrastructure division.

London Stock Exchange Group strengthened the group's information services business with the hire of Caroline O'Shaughnessy as global head of sales and marketing and Brian Rosenberg as managing director, North America sales. O'Shaughnessy, who will be based in London, was most recently at the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation, where she was managing director of data services. Rosenberg, who will be based in New York, was most recently head of sales for hedge funds and asset management in North America for SunGard Financial Systems. O'Shaughnessy reports to Mark Makepeace, group director of information services, and Rosenberg reports to O'Shaughnessy.

Robert Grant was named head of business development to help boost expansion in North America for LSE’s UnaVista, the exchange operator’s platform for matching, validation and reconciliation. Grant, who is based in New York, most recently served as senior vice president of sales at Axiom Software Laboratories.

BOX Options Exchange announced a change in leadership. Ed Boyle, who has been in charge of business development at BOX since 2012, was named chief executive officer, and Lisa Fall, the exchange's chief legal officer, was named president. Tony McCormick, who had been the exchange's chief executive officer since 2009, remains with the company as the chief executive officer of BOX Regulation, the exchange's self-regulatory arm.

Jorge Alegria stepped down as chief executive officer of MexDer on May 7. During his 12 years with the exchange, he oversaw the overhaul of its technology platform and partnerships with CME Group and MEFF. He also served as the head of markets operations and data services for MexDer's parent company, BMV Group, since 2010. BMV has not yet named his successor.

Borsa Istanbul announced several top level appointments. Tuncay Dinç was appointed CEO to succeed Ibrahim Turhan, who resigned to run for a seat in Parliament. Dinç was previously with Turkish DO&CO, a catering business affiliated with Turkish Airlines. Talat Ulussever was elected chairman of the board. He is the founding chairman of the economics department at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. Additionally, Halil Tunali was elected to a vacant seat on the board. He is a professor at Istanbul University. Adnan Metin was appointed executive vice president, responsible for corporate development and information technology. He was previously at Turkish Airlines.

Allston Holdings hired Peter Merritt to lead the firm’s metals trading team. He was formerly global head of metals trading at HSBC and Bank of America.

R.J. O'Brien (UK) named veteran institutional grains broker Richard Mayhew as senior vice president, head of grains and oilseeds, EMEA. Mayhew joined RJO from ADM Investor Services International, where he had been head of international grain and oilseed futures broking since 1999.

Sandy Broderick, a former senior executive at Depository Trust and Clearing Corp., was appointed by GMEX Group as chairman of its exchange and as non-executive director for three of its companies. GMEX, based in London, is developing interest rate futures based on a constant maturity index and is scheduled to go live later this year. Broderick previously was chief executive officer of DTCC DerivServ and oversaw the development of DTCC's global trade repository. GMEX also appointed Mark Blundell as chairman of the committee that oversees its indices. Blundell has been serving as a non-executive director at GMEX since September 2013.

Coquest, the Dallas-based futures broker, hired Michael Lock as director of brokerage. He will oversee the firm's trade services group, including brokerage operations and trade reports. Lock was previously with Altegris Clearing Solutions where he was responsible for clearing operations.

Platts named Martin Fraenkel chief content officer. He was most recently global head of energy at CME Group. He reports to Larry Neal, president of Platts.

Robert Pickel, former CEO of ISDA, was appointed non-executive director to the board of TraditionSEF, the swap execution facility operated by Tradition, an OTC interdealer broker.

Tera Group, the parent company of the TeraExchange derivatives trading platform, named Duncan Niederauer, former chief executive officer of NYSE Euronext, as an advisory director.

The Federation of European Securities Exchanges appointed Rainer Riess as director general on a permanent basis from April 1. He has been serving as interim director general since August 2014. Riess worked for more than two decades at Deutsche Börse and was involved in several strategic efforts to develop the exchange's equity and futures markets, including the electronic trading alliance between Eurex and the Chicago Board of Trade. FESE also announced that Richard Gardiner, who has been with FESE since 2010, has been promoted to be the new head of public and regulatory affairs.

The Institute for Financial Markets, a nonprofit educational foundation and independent affiliate of FIA, re-elected three trustees: Peter Borish, chief strategist, Quad Capital; John Damgard, former president of FIA; and Arthur Hahn, a partner at Katten Muchin Rosenman. Daniel Driscoll, executive vice president and chief compliance officer at National Futures Association, and Gary Dewaal, special counsel at Katten Muchin Rosenman, were elected as secretary/treasurer and vice chairman, respectively. Also, Michael Dawley, managing director and global co-head of futures and derivatives clearing services, Goldman Sachs and Co., was re-appointed as chairman to serve a one-year term.

The FIA European Principal Traders Association appointed Willem Sprenkeler, manager of corporate affairs at Optiver, as a member of the association's executive committee. He has been with Optiver since 2010 and before that he worked for AFM, the Dutch market regulator. Sprenkeler replaced Hans Pieterse, who left Optiver at the end of March.

FIA named Michael Sorrell associate general counsel, reporting to Allison Lurton, general counsel and senior vice president. He was most recently an associate at Morrison and Foerster in the firm's derivatives and commodities, securities litigation and enforcement and energy regulatory groups. FIA also promoted Cameron Lane to digital marketing manager, responsible for the association's website and other electronic communications. He reports to Charlie Jones, vice president of global brand management. 

Lyvian Wong joined FIA Tech as a relationship manager based in the FIA Tech Singapore office. She was previously an account manager for Trading Technologies in Singapore.
