Steven D. Spence

Steve Spence was chairman of the FIA from 2000 to 2001. At that time, he was the global head of financial futures and options at Merrill Lynch. He started his career at Merrill in 1987 and soon became manager of interest rate futures at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He was then posted to Paris, then Tokyo, in both cases as manager of futures and options. He served onseveral industry boards, including Matif’s international advisory board, the CFTC’s financial products advisory board and FIA’s Japan Chapter. A true internationalist, his broad perspective was an asset to the FIA as cross-border trading experienced tremendous growth.
