John Benjamin spent 40 years in the futures industry and played a leading role as a bridge between the Wall Street investment banks and the Chicago exchange community. During his career at Smith Barney Shearson, he rose to managing director, responsible for its institutional futures and options operations in Chicago. He was a director of the FIA from 1986 to 1992 and for many years thereafter provided advice to the FIA board. Benjamin served as chair of both the FIA Futures & Options Expo and International Futures Industry Conference steering committees and contributed significantly to the growth of both events. He has served in several positions at the Chicago exchanges, including a director at the Chicago Board of Trade, chairman of the CBOT’s FCM committee, and a director of the Globex Corporation.
