Appointments, promotions and other people news in the derivatives industry

Goldman Sachs head of global commodities Ed Emerson is retiring in March 2024 after 24 years at the company. Xiao Qin and Nitin Jindal will succeed Emerson and lead the business as co-heads of global commodities. Qin currently leads commodities trading in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific and runs trading for oil and refined products worldwide. Jindal has spent six years at Goldman as head of Americas commodities trading and head of North America gas and power trading. Before his time at Goldman, he spent nine years at Morgan Stanley as head of power trading. 

Gloria Lio

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation has hired Gloria Lio as managing director and head of enterprise services. She will be responsible for leading strategy development for DTCC’s Global Business Operations, Client Services, Integration and Business Architecture. Lio will report to Frank La Salla, DTCC's president and chief executive officer, and will also serve as a member of the DTCC management committee. Lio brings over 25 years of financial services experience and has served in roles including global head of custody and middle office operations at BNY Mellon and managing director at Goldman Sachs. 

Singapore Exchange has announced that chief financial officer Ng Yao Loong will transition to the role of head of equities beginning mid-2024 with Janice Kan as co-head. The search for Loong’s successor is underway and Loong will continue in the role until someone is appointed. Prior to being appointed CFO at SGX, Loong served as deputy chief financial officer. He also spent seven years at the Monetary Authority of Singapore as executive director and assistant managing director. 

Daniel Maguire

London Stock Exchange Group has expanded Daniel Maguire’s role to chief strategy officer and group head of post trade, which includes the LCH Group clearinghouse business. Maquire has been CEO of LCH Group since 2017 and will continue to serve in this role, a spokesperson confirmed. During his career, Maguire has held a variety of senior roles at LCH Group including global head of SwapClear, ForexClear and COO. He worked at JP Morgan from 2005 to 2008 before returning to LCH where he was immediately responsible for the trading and unwinding of Lehman Brothers’ LCH-cleared bond and repo portfolio.

Nick Rustad, the former head of futures and OTC clearing at JP Morgan, has joined Taula Capital Management, a newly established macro hedge fund based in London. He will be working closely with the founders to prepare the fund for launch in Q2. Rustad was tapped in 2016 to run JP Morgan’s clearing business and represented the bank on the board of directors of FIA. Before moving into the clearing role, he was head of EMEA emerging markets bond and derivatives trading. Millennium Management, a global investment management firm, recently granted $3 billion to support the launch of Taula Capital for more than a year. 

Webull Financial, a Chinese-based brokerage that specializes in online trading services for retail customers, has appointed Arianne Adams, former head of derivatives at Cboe Global Markets, to the role of chief strategy officer and head of derivatives. Adams is based in New York and will report to Webull CEO Anthony Denier. Prior to her time at Cboe, she worked in equity derivatives roles at Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch. 

Adam Matuszewski

Adam Matuszewski, the former head of equities at Switzerland's SIX, has been appointed head of European business development at Citadel Securities. Matuszewski spent a decade at SIX starting as an equities product management trainee and later taking on leadership roles including senior equities product manager. 

Deribit, the leading trading venue for options on cryptocurrencies, has hired David Dohmen as its chief regulation officer. Dohmen brings extensive experience at brokers and trading firms in the listed derivatives industry, having worked at R.J. O'Brien, Gain Capital, NEX, and Ronin Trading.  

Marex has announced that Stephane DiTullio has joined the futures sales team based in New York. Prior to joining Marex, DiTullo served as a director in the futures clearing business at Bank of America Merrill Lynch for 11 years focused on clients in the hedge fund industry. Before that he worked in similar roles at Deutsche Bank and Barclays. 

Interactive Brokers has appointed Rich Repetto, former managing director at the Piper Sandler investment bank, as an independent director. Repetto was a principal stock analyst at Piper Sandler and its predecessor Sandler O’Neil and Partners for nearly two decades where he focused on exchanges and brokers research. 

Chris Arnold

Jones Day has brought on Chris Arnold as a partner in its financial markets practice based in London. He will work with the chair of the EMEA and APAC regions, Alban Caillemer du Ferrage. His responsibilities include assisting UK, European, and international clients with all aspects of derivatives and structured finance transactions and working in close collaboration with Jones Day lawyers in the firm's European and US offices. Previously, Arnold was a partner at Mayer Brown in the firm's banking and finance team with a focus on derivatives. He also spent time at Allen & Overy and Goldman Sachs. 

Rostin Behnam, chairman of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, has announced two appointments in the agency's data division. Ted Kaouk was appointed chief data officer and director of the data division, and John Coughlan was appointed chief data scientist. Prior to joining the CFTC, Kaouk spent nine years at the US Department of Agriculture in various roles including chief of staff and chief data officer. He also served as chief data officer for the US Office of Personnel Management and was chair of the Federal Chief Data Officers Council. Coughlan spent nearly nine years as a research economist at the CFTC, most recently as a market analyst in the market intelligence branch of the agency's market oversight division. In that role, he built a machine learning model to detect anomalies in regulatory transactions data.
