Vice President of Global Communications

The Vice President of Global Communications manages the breadth of FIA’s communications work, including public relations, digital strategy, content planning, development and analytics relating to  FIA’s website, as well as member communications channels. This position liaises closely with key stakeholders, including senior management, advocacy, marketing and events staff, to coordinate the communication of FIA policy positions and priorities. The position is part of the Commercial Department’s leadership team and is based in Washington DC.

Supervision
The VP of Global Communications is directly supervised by the Chief Commercial Officer, based in London, with an additional/indirect reporting line to the SVP Publications, Data & Research, based in Washington D.C., relating to publications, research and strategic priorities.

Staff
The position is the direct line manager for the Senior Manager Communications, Publications and Programming, based in London, and the Digital Communications Manager and the Web Operations Manager, both based in D.C.

Responsibilities
Overall – oversee the strategic direction, creation and implementation of content plans across FIA channels including website, social media, FIA’s digital publication, conference programming, research papers, podcasts, CEO speeches and member updates.

Digital strategy, content planning and analytics

  • Conduct regular meetings with the relevant stakeholders in FIA's global management team to collaborate on core objectives for fia.org and review progress
  • Coordinate with FIA's marketing and member services departments on core priorities
  • Publish high-level quarterly web analytics and develop individual KPI areas as appropriate. Provide regular updates on website development to GMT
  • Establish digital workflows to standardize processes for content
  • Establish and maintain style guides in conjunction with marketing team

Manage maintenance, appearance and development queue for website

  • Catalog and prioritize potential back-end website development/upgrades based to improve workflow
  • Catalog and prioritize front-end updates to key landing pages and work areas
  • Train and support staff to manage routine day-to-day duties and functions

Oversee member communications

  • Create content reflecting FIA’s core priorities and industry interest, across all communications channels
  • Oversee the production of the weekly Member Update newsletter
  • Oversee the publication of the monthly Ops/Tech member email and consider development of further communications.
  • Produce the Year in Review, an annual digital publication that summarizes FIA's achievements
  • Support/draft FIA research papers as required
  • Support other communications efforts as appropriate, including drafting of remarks for delivery at conferences, editorials for publication online, press releases etc
  • Maintain and participate in the rotation for editing SmartBrief, FIA's daily aggregation of third-party news relevant to the global derivatives industry
  • Oversee the editorial calendar for MarketVoice, FIA's online magazine, in conjunction with SVP Publications, Data & Research
  • Oversee the production and editing of MV in conjunction with Senior Communications Manager

Oversee Public Relations

  • Work with key stakeholders within FIA on the drafting of press releases
  • Oversee the process for sending out press releases to the media
  • Oversee the process for managing media requests and queries and media participation at FIA events.

Required competencies

  • At least seven years' experience in writing and editing for a professional and/or business audience; experience working in a web publishing environment; experience with deadline-sensitive writing and editing.
  • Excellent writing skills; familiarity with financial markets or commodity markets; high levels of initiative and editorial judgment; commitment to accuracy.
  • Management experience with a background of collaborating across functional departments

Desired competencies

  • Experience with digital communications platforms and analytical tools
  • Expertise in/understanding of financial markets and/or commodity markets
  • Experience in/familiarity with public policy and/or regulation
