FIA responds to CFTC on listing of compute derivatives
20 October 2026
FIA has submitted comments to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission regarding the listing of graphics processing unit compute derivatives contracts, an emerging asset class, which currently appear to primarily rely upon indices for price reference.
FIA’s comments are: (1) only contracts that can be effectively risk-managed should be listed and cleared; and (2) the Commission should harness its (and other global regulators’) considerable experience overseeing derivative contracts that use indices as price references to ensure reliable compute derivatives markets that operate with integrity, transparency, liquidity, and effective price discovery.
