President Bill Clinton appointed Bill Rainer to head the Commodity Futures Trading Commission at a critical time when the agency was dealing with the issues involved in the growth of the swaps market. Bill Rainer helped build relations with the industry and was a key figure in the Clinton Administration. Under his leadership, the CFTC moved toward principles-based regulation. He brought a clear and well-needed perspective of markets and how participants use these markets from his past experience. He is the co-founder and former managing director of Greenwich Capital Markets. Prior to that experience he worked for Kidder, Peabody in various capacities for 10 years. He was also a former Chairman and CEO of the single-stock futures exchange OneChicago. Currently he is Chairman of the Dean’s Council at Harvard Divinity School and a member of the boards of the Dodd Research Center, University of Connecticut, and the IE Graduate School of Business, Madrid. Earlier in his career, he played professional baseball.
