Daniel R. Glickman

As a trained securities lawyer, Dan Glickman helped bridge the gap between the securities and futures markets when he served on the House Agriculture Committee, which has oversight of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. He participated in several reauthorizations of the agency and was actively involved in shaping policy at a time when there were huge advances and innovations in the financial futures markets. He served for 18 years in the U.S. House of Representatives representing the 4th Congressional District of Kansas. He has had a long career of roles critical to the agriculture markets. He served as the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture from March 1995 until January 2001. Under his leadership, the Department administered farm and conservation programs, modernized food safety regulations, forged international trade agreements to expand U.S. markets, and improved its commitment to fairness and equality in civil rights. He also served as Chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America from 2004 until 2010. He currently sits on the board of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and he is a Senior Fellow at the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington, D.C. He is the author of Farm Futures in Foreign Affairs.
